Alarm System Faults

My alarm code pad is beeping at me… what do I do?

Alarm systems are relatively good at self-monitoring fault conditions and will advise you of a fault normally via the code pad beeping once every minute (this can be rather annoying when it happens at 2am).

The first thing to do is to Acknowledge the fault, this will normally stop the continuing beep of the code pad. Most Bosch alarm panel faults can be acknowledged by pressing the # key on the code pad. The fault is also normally featured on the code pad by a triangle shape with an exclamation ! mark inside the triangle.

The second thing to do is to refer to your owners manual (I can hear you say… “the what?, I have no idea where that is”) and refer to the fault finding section and table that will identify exactly what the fault may be.

Refer to the Support section of this website for user manuals downloads of some of the common alarm panels  we have installed over the years. User Manuals.

Fault Analysis mode for a Bosch 880 8 zone alarm panel

If a fault occurs, the FAULT or MAINS indicators flash and the codepad beeps once every min.
If the AC MAINS supply fails, the MAINS indicator flashes until the AC MAINS supply is restored.

Pressing the [#] button once acknowledges the fault and stops the codepad from beeping once every min.

How to Determine the Type of System Fault

To determine which system fault occurred, enter Fault Analysis Mode by following the steps below:

1. Hold down the [5] key until two beeps sound.
The FAULT indicator remains steady and the STAY and AWAY indicators flash in unison.
A zone indicator displays the type of fault that occurred (for example, Zone 1 = System Fault).

Refer below  for the list of possible system faults.

2. To further determine the type of fault condition, press and hold down the key that corresponds to the zone indicator displayed.
For example, if Zone 1 displayed System Fault, press and hold the [1] key to display which system fault occurred.

3. To exit Fault Analysis Mode and return to the disarmed state, press the [#] key. The FAULT indicator continues to display and the codepad stops sounding once a min.
